The story (and research) behind this app
When studying at Duke University, one of our founders started experiencing symptoms of depression. As an alternative to medication, a counsellor told her about some incredible research the university had recently done.
Dr. Bryan Sexton, associate professor in psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Dukeâs School of Medicine, found that simply listing three good things each day in a particular way increased happiness more effectively than Prozac! Participants were asked to:
List 3 good things that happened every day
Emphasizing their active role in the events (e.g. "I saw a pretty sunset today" rather than just writing "There was a pretty sunset").
Describe the positive emotion
Participants were asked to write how the Good Thing made them feel, and what was their role in it.
Results from this simple exercise
1. Increased feeling of well-being. 2. Improved sleep qualityâwhen done within 2 hours of bedtime. 3. Greater mental resilience.

so sweet!
since March, i made it my nightly ritual to write down a few things iâm grateful for. It improved the way i think and live. i felt myself feeling like i was actually doing things that were meaningful during the day. even something as simple as âi ate really healthy foods todayâ makes your days feel so much more fulfilling! i used a journal for a few months but ran out of space and wanted to buy a new one. Papier had some really pretty designs, although i didnât fancy spending $30+ on it, so i resorted to this app instead. first of all, i looove the yellow! second, i love how there is a section to see memories to scroll through all of the things youâve written down since using the app. overall, i think itâs a great app so far, and i look forward to using it every day. :)

The gratitude journal Iâve been looking for
I love the simple design which helps make daily gratitude journal easy instead of overwhelming. Also the second question about what emotions I felt during the good thing is something Iâve never seen before but really adds impact to my reflection on the good parts of my day. Really amazed I found exactly what I was looking for finally and in a free app!

simple, beautiful, intentionally designed by people who care about more than pressuring you to spend money. serves a purpose, does a great job at it, a pleasure to use. so glad simple effective apps like this are still out there, and greatly admire what oatmeal apps is doing. two thumbs up.

Simple but powerful app
Love the simplicity of this app! Itâs easy to use and no ads!!! Not only is it easy, itâs so important to keep me focused on the good things. Some days, itâs tricky, but I can usually always find something good. So grateful for this app! Thanks to the creators for making it simple and easy!

Easy to use
This is so easy to use. It gets you motivated to focus on the positives in life. I kept a gratitude journal for many years, but was having trouble keeping up with it as life got busier. This app made it easy to accomplish a gratitude journal again.

Simple app to practice gratitude.
I like how simple the app is and doesnât overwhelm you with other features. I have a hard time keeping up with daily journals of any kind because it feels like such a hassle, but I can see myself actually be able to use this app every day to practice gratitude and hopefully become a more positive person. The $11.99 annual subscription is really affordable, but you donât need it in order to use the app. Itâs great that the free version has no ads, as well! I chose to get the annual subscription to support the app. I have a couple suggestions or wants, though: 1. More color options for the background. I especially would love a pink option, like Prompted Journal has. 2. A more condensed viewing option in Memories so itâs easier to view everything at once, rather than having to scroll all the way through. 3. Not as big of a deal as the other two, but maybe different options for fonts of the date and âWhat three good things happened today?â prompt.

Simple yet significant
I wanted an app where I can quickly write my gratitude as opposed to filling out full journals, completing multiple activities with emojis, getting notifications throughout the day to record how Iâm feeling, etc. This app is so effective; since using it I have felt more aware of the simple and small goodness that happens throughout my day. When I miss entries, I notice my attitude is less thankful and appreciative.
